From education to employment

Liverpool’s Scientiam training provider enters administration

Liverpool-based training provider Scientiam has collapsed into administration putting around 70 jobs at risk.

The company, best known for being behind the retail training centre at the Liverpool One development, has brought in Mazars as administrators to help transfer roughly 700 young people onto alternative training courses.

Mazars explained: “Learner numbers not reaching targets coupled with clawbacks of previously advanced funding combined to drain Scientiam of its cash resources … Although the administrators have had to announce cessation of all activity, and have commenced redundancy consultations with all staff, it is nevertheless the primary concern to facilitate as orderly a hand over of these learners to a successor organisation as rapidly as possible.”

The Skills Funding Agency said it will be writing to all learners and apprentices to confirm next steps.

Scientiam’s collapse follows plans by education giant Pearson last month to exit its adult training businesses in a move that will affect roughly 5,000 learners.
