The FE sector’s ‘Good for ME Good for FE’ community action campaign has launched an emergency appeal to support people in Ukraine.

138 colleges around the country came together in September to help generate social value within their localities – and are now mobilising to help struggling families and communities affected by the war currently unfolding in Europe.

Via its website, Good for ME Good for FE is using its JustGiving page to create a central platform for colleges to donate funds – aligned directly to British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal.

Many colleges are already involved in collections and fundraising for Ukraine within their local areas. Good for ME Good for FE will be helping to support these efforts further by connecting its network into a wide range of voluntary community services and charities.

Good for ME Good for FE was launched in June last year, with the aim to collectively generate £1m of social value via staff and student fundraising and volunteering activity. Already three quarters of the way to this target, the campaign is demonstrating the vital civic role that colleges play in their communities.

Group Principal and CEO of London South East Colleges – and founding member of Good for ME Good for FE – Dr Sam Parrett CBE, says:

“Our network of colleges has come together over the past year to help support and add social value to local communities – and the impact has been inspiring.

“As we now watch in horror at the terrible situation unfolding in the Ukraine, we all want to do what we can to help civilians, their families and their children.

“By mobilising the incredible Good for ME Good for FE network that we already have in place, we have immediately been able to set up a national platform and provide our partner colleges with support to centralise donations, ensuring aid gets to the people who need it as soon as possible.

“We are also keen to help support the many local charities and voluntary organisations who are making enormous efforts to get vital supplies out to the Ukraine – and will be encouraging our network of colleges to get further involved in every way they can.”

Jo Maher, Principal & CEO at Loughborough College, adds: “Good for ME Good for FE has been built on the foundations of community and social value. Our community is needed now more than ever. Standing together for peace and providing support to those most in need strikes to the heart of how we can collectively help. Our brilliant network can again be a force for good, so let’s work together to support everyone that we can to get through this period.”
