A DOZEN Brockenhurst College (@BrockCollege) Merchant Navy Pre-cadetship students have landed full Cadetships with leading maritime companies even before graduating.

The successful candidates have secured training opportunities with big names such as Fred Olsen, Princess Cruises and AW Crewing.

Prospective roles are diverse and include deck officer, engineering officer and electro-technical officer.

Meanwhile, the three other students on the relatively new course are still waiting to hear the outcome of their interviews.

The Pre-cadetship in Maritime Technologies at Brock is a full-time Level 2 course designed to prepare learners for sought-after Cadetship opportunities.

Brock is one of only five UK colleges to offer the qualification, which is delivered at the College’s Marchwood Construction & Marine Technologies Centre, close to the Solent.

As well as benefitting from expert teachers and industry-standard facilities, learners use ship simulators during visits to Solent University’s Warsash Maritime School.

This is advantageous because Warsash Maritime School is the most likely provider of cadet training for successful Pre-cadetship leavers.

Warsash Director, Lars Lippuner, said:

“Brockenhurst College and Solent University’s Warsash Maritime School have been working in close collaboration to create meaningful progression and career pathways for young people with an interest to work in the maritime industry.

“The relatively new Pre-cadetship programme at Brock has been a resounding success, offering school leavers fantastic career opportunities and providing the UK maritime industry with fresh talent.”

Brock Pre-cadetship student, Max Sandford-Hart, commented:

“The Pre-cadetship course was perfect; during the course my theory and practical work has improved massively with the help and knowledge of the tutors.

“As a direct result of the Pre-cadetship I have gained a Cadetship with Ship Safe Training Group as a marine engineer, training at Warsash.”

Brock Head of Curriculum, Lesley Chantler, said: “This success serves to highlight the quality of teaching and learning at Brockenhurst College, where we work hard to give our Pre-cadets everything they need to gain a meaningful career foothold in the Merchant Navy.

“We wish all our leavers well and look forward to following their achievements as they move forward with their careers.”
