Apprentice honoured at regional awards

Weston College apprentice, Madeleine Wood, was crowned Outstanding Service Industries Apprentice of the Year at the Bristol and Bath Apprenticeship Awards.

Madeleine, who is studying a business administration apprenticeship at the DoubleTree Hilton hotel in Congresbury was chosen as the category winner by a panel of judges.

Madeleine said: “Winning was such an amazing experience as it showed me how well I had done, not only to impress my colleagues at work for them to put me up for the award but the judging panel of the Bristol and Bath Apprenticeship Awards to have chosen me out of all the other applicants.

“I still don’t think it’s really sunk in that I have won the award!”

Other award winners included Beauty Oasis Spa who won Small Employer of the Year and GKN Aerospace who won Large Employer of the Year. Both businesses currently employ and train apprentices through Weston College.

Liz Redwood, Executive Director of Apprenticeships and Commercial Strategy said: “A huge congratulations to Madeleine and all the other award winners.

“It was such a fantastic evening and it was great to see apprentices and businesses coming together to celebrate remarkable achievements.”

The awards ceremony, which took place on Thursday 19th May at the Bristol Mariott City Centre Hotel, celebrated and recognised dedication from apprentices and employers in their chosen scheme.
