Beauty student raises a few eyebrows after scooping top award

Misty Crew

Former Borders College (@BordersCollege) student Misty Crew is celebrating yet again after scooping ‘Best Brow Technician’ at the recent Scottish Business Awards, staged at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Glasgow.

The accolade follows on from Misty’s previous regional win as the ‘Best Brow Technician’ in the Scottish Borders back in 2019.

Misty, who is 37 and from Tweedbank, studied Beauty Therapy level 2 at Borders College, which gave her the confidence to go on and set up her own business with a fellow student in November 2013.

Sculpting eyebrows soon became her speciality and she now runs Mistys Brow Specialist, based at the Galashiels Transport Interchange. Misty commented:

“When I launched the business eight years ago it started off as a walk-in beauty salon doing quick treatments but eyebrows started to become my most popular treatment so I began to do more courses in brows and eventually stopped all other treatments and concentrated on eyebrows.”

Speaking of winning the award and how Borders College helped her career, Misty added:

“I never imagined I could make a living doing eyebrows, never mind winning awards. This would never have been possible without Borders College. They gave me the skills and confidence to go out there and do something I loved and turn it into a career!

“My advice to students would be to keep doing your best, once you have your qualification then the world opens up even more.”

Borders College Beauty Lecturer Jane Gray commented:

“It’s great to learn about our past students’ achievements and we’re delighted to hear of Misty’s success at the recent Scottish Business Awards. She is a real inspiration and hopefully, many other students can go on and emulate her success.”

Misty plans to continue doing what she loves best and would one day like to help others learn the skills she has acquired over her career.
