City of London Academy, Highgate Hill helps to reduce the use of plastic with new water bottles

Staff and students from the City of London Academy, Highgate Hill will play their part in reducing the use of plastic by giving away water bottles, which will form part of the school’s uniform.

At the start of the new term in September all staff and students at the Archway school will be handed water bottles reducing single use of plastic and their carbon footprint.

Prince Gennuh, Principal of City of London Academy, Highgate Hill, said:

“The impact of plastic bottles on the environment is clear and it’s time for us all to play our part.

“We want all staff and students to do their bit in reducing the amount of plastic that we use and to reduce our carbon footprint.

“The water bottle will form part of every student’s uniform and they will be able to fill their bottles with water from the water fountains in the school.”

Andrew McMurtrie, Chair of City of London Academies Trust, said:

“This is a fantastic move from the staff and pupils at Highgate Hill.

“We all know the impact the use of plastic is having on our planet and on our marine life.

“It is encouraging to see that the next generation doing their part in reducing their carbon footprint and being more responsible around the use of plastic.”

The recently launched Plastic Free City initiative will see the City of London Corporation lead by example by reducing the provision of single-use plastics across all buildings it owns and also increase the number of drinking fountains in the Square Mile.
