Barking & Dagenham College was recognised as a champion of skills and training in the creative industries at an awards ceremony on Monday night.

Over 200 guests gathered in the National Museum Cardiff to celebrate the people and organisations that are working to develop a strong, skilled cultural sector. This year’s awards drew the highest number of nominations in the history of the event.

The shortlist featured nominees from across the UK, specialising in dance, theatre, heritage, music, community arts and more.

Simon Dancey, CEO of Creative & Cultural Skills said: “The calibre of nominees we had in this year’s awards was truly exceptional. As a sector we’re not very good at celebrating the work we do, particularly the work which goes on behind the scenes.

“These awards are designed as a chance for us to take time out of our usual day-to-day activities and reflect on our successes.”

The Creative Industries Team at Barking & Dagenham College was highly commended in the category of Training Provider of the Year Award.

Katie Morgan, Creative & Cultural Skills Project Leader & Creative Course Leader at Barking & Dagenham College said: “I’m really proud of the whole Creative & Cultural Industries team who work so hard to give our students excellent training and good work experience opportunities.”
