Eamonn secures place at International Trade Summer School

South Eastern Regional College (SERC) BA Business Studies degree student Eamonn Shannon from Crumlin has been accepted to take part in an International Trade Summer School as part of the National Trade Academy Programme.

Organised through the Department for International Trade, the National Trade Academy Programme offers a variety of new learning opportunities to upskill and engage students, businesses and academics.

The new summer school offers a unique opportunity for participants to gain invaluable expert insight into international trade and investment. The three-day programme taking place in London from 16-18 July will be an extensive practical learning programme which will involve areas such as international trade concepts, group-based export related challenges and meeting successful businesses leaders.

The former St. Patrick’s Academy pupil aged 21, received the unique opportunity after competing against hundreds of applicants across the UK.

After completing a lengthy competency-based application form and a reference from SERC Deputy Head of School of Hospitality, Management, Tourism and Languages Jenny McConnell, Eamonn received a provisional offer.

Eamonn came to SERC after his GCSE’s in 2013 and attended the colleges open day where he spoke with tutors and enrolled onto a diploma in creative media course as well as essential skills literacy and ICT at the colleges Bangor Campus. Eamonn then progressed onto the Level 3 Business diploma and is now in his second year of the Liverpool John Moore’s University BA Business Studies degree course. On completion of the course, Eamonn hopes to secure full-time employment or to start up his own business.

SERC Deputy Head of School of Hospitality, Management, Tourism and Languages Jenny McConnell said:

“At SERC we are commitment to providing students with opportunities which allow them to improve their employability skills, add to their knowledge and explore their potential. The International Trade Summer School will certainly help Eamonn stand out and will ultimately help him to gain valuable experience and secure future employment.
