Former Borders College Mountain Biking students head to World Championships

Borders College will have a significant influence on this year’s UCI Mountain Bike Masters World Championships, being held in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Canada, as three of the twelve selected riders are former BASE students.

Greg Williamson, Reece Wilson, and Jake Ebdon, all past Mountain Biking students, will represent Great Britain, as part of the Downhill Team, in the Crème de la crème of biking competitions, taking place between 28th August and 1st September, this year.

Both Greg and Reece will compete in the elite men’s race, while Luke will compete in the junior men’s race – an excellent achievement for all the former students.

The students were all part of the BASE Mountain Biking course, which is delivered in conjunction with Dirt School – a company specialising in mountain bike coaching. The world-renowned course allows students to develop their mountain biking skills, while also gaining a suite of qualifications relevant to their studies.

This exciting news follows on from several recent successes from the BASE Mountain Biking students, including the mixed quad team win at the Strathpuffer event, held in the Scottish Highlands earlier this year. Former student Karra Laing also took third place at the recent National Downhill Race in Wales, as well as being appointed an ambassador for leading biking holiday company MTB Beds.
