General Dynamics Search for Their Next Apprentice

General Dynamics held an apprenticeship recruitment day at Sussex Coast College Hastings earlier this month.

Building on the success of the last few years, Sussex Coast College and Sussex Downs College, under their newly formed partnership, Sussex Skills Solutions, have teamed up with General Dynamics again this year, to help the avionics and tactical communications manufacturer find two new apprentices.

The Sussex Skills Solutions apprenticeship team met with representatives from General Dynamics at the Ore Valley campus to put 8 keen candidates through their paces. The candidates had the opportunity to impress bosses during a fifteen minute interview, an engineering aptitude test, and an English and maths assessment.

The candidates, who had been shortlisted from applications to General Dynamics, were vying for two positions within the company, one, a Business and Administration position, and the other, an Electronic Engineering position; both with opportunities for progression onto a Higher Apprenticeship.

Joy Sheen, Human Resources Advisor at General Dynamics, said: “The morning was a great success and all the candidates did remarkably well. During the next stage of the recruitment process, we’ll invite five students in for a tour of the business and meet the management team, and from there, we’ll hopefully be able to offer the apprenticeship opportunities to two students for a September start.”
