The hospitality and catering department at Tameside College has received two awards from the prestigious Craft Guild of Chefs.

The college was recognised for “commitment in furthering the objectives and excellence within catering education.” John Holden, hospitality and catering teacher also received a diploma for continued support.

Established in 1965, the Craft Guild of Chefs is the UK’s largest and most prestigious professional organisation representing the hospitality and catering industry. Both awards were presented at the organisation’s AGM, at the Victory Services Club in London.

John is a WorldSkillsUK food competition judge and regularly works with other colleges, the Craft Guild of Chefs and businesses in the industry to improve standards and develop students.

Pauline Tucker, vice president of the Craft Guild of Chefs, said: “John and the team at Tameside College are a very intricate part of the group that we rely upon to continue delivering the standards that the industry needs to go forward. He is a very dedicated and knowledgeable judge, who helps the students to improve in their careers.”

The awards come as the hospitality and catering department settle into the state-of-the-art Tameside One campus, in Ashton-under-Lyne town centre.
