Proposed College Merger Consultation Gets Under Way

A full public consultation period has begun concerning the proposed merger of three Further Education colleges to create a single Further Education college for Nottingham by merging Castle College Nottingham, New College Nottingham and South Nottingham College.

The Learning and Skills Council announced on 7 May 2008 that it sees merit in the proposal, enabling it to progress to public consultation. The proposal is now subject to an inclusive public consultation period lasting six weeks, seeking opinion from within the learning and skills community, the teaching unions, local and regional government, as well as staff, students, employers and the public.

The three college Boards recognise the potential of a single FE authority to benefit learners and employers, maintain choice for learners and for the three colleges to manage change.

A programme of proactive communications is running throughout the merger process, informing all key stakeholders about major milestones, as well as the timeline for change. A website will provide general information about the proposed merger. www.nottinghamcollegesmerger.co.uk

The public consultation period runs from 12 May 2008 to 20 June 2008.
