Salford City College student brings home Gold for England Water Polo

Emmie-Rose Eastwood and her under 18’s team have brought home a gold medal from the ESSA (English School Swimming Association) Water Polo Tournament in Malta!

Emmie, former pupil of Fred Longworth High School travelled to Malta to play against Italy, Slovakia, and the host nation Malta and remained undefeated throughout. The tournament ran over the weekend from Friday until Sunday and each day included a gym session, a training session, a swim set in the sea and a match in the evening.

To ensure she gets the right balance between studying for her BTEC in Sport Studies and Science, Emmie stays behind after college to work on her assignments so that she can dedicate her evening to training with her home team, City of Manchester, and to train with Great Britain twice a month.

“My tutors at College are so supportive and go the extra mile to help. I have gained so much confidence and have travelled around the world to places like Hungary, Slovakia and Prague, and my team are like family. I’m now looking forward to training for the Europeans in August in Serbia!”

Whilst Emmie is still only in her first year she has Loughborough University in her sights for the future and wants to be a physiotherapist.

Everyone at Salford City College wishes Emmie the best of luck for the European’s in Serbia!
