Following a comprehensive procurement process, TechnologyOne has been selected to supply and install a completely new finance, procurement, business intelligence and reporting solution software package for the Institute of Education (IoE), one of the principal colleges of the University of London. The company’s FinancialsOne software solution is replacing the IoE’s existing hybrid financial packages.

TechnologyOne has become one of the major providers of enterprise application software in the UK with key installations in the education and healthcare sectors, as well as in a range of local authority and commercial applications.

Commenting on the new system, Marcus McDonald, Deputy Secretary of Corporate Services at the IoE, said: “The TechnologyOne solution met the functional requirements of the Institute, delivering integrated workflow and business intelligence. Its flexibility also meant that it was the best solution for our requirements, as it can be tailored for our unique needs.

“The user-friendly interface was also a key factor in our decision, as we felt it would encourage our employees to utilise the system. For example, our reporting processes will be simplified, reports easy to create and the XLOne integration will allow users to access reports on demand, in a file-format they are familiar with.

“We knew we would have a dedicated implementation partner and were confident they were committed to the ongoing support and development of the proposed package and would be able to supply the system at an acceptable cost and within deadlines.”

Talking about TechnologyOne’s systems, Joseph Slattery, the company’s UK director, said: “We have a slightly different model than the multinationals. Firstly, we partner directly with all our client organisations; without having to involve a third-party or reseller. And because we develop our own solutions for specific vertical markets in the UK, we know the best way to integrate them in specific situations.”

“Our staff are also experts in their respective fields,” explains Slattery. “They work directly with organisations to gain a full understanding of their structure and future strategic business directions. We combine an in-depth knowledge of our software with an understanding of commercial needs to help maximise the use of our solutions and get clients up and running quickly.

“Secondly, our software uses the latest Microsoft.net architecture. Our solutions – we operate under a House of Products model which includes Financials, HR & Payroll, Business Intelligence, Works & Assets and others – are totally integrated and share a common, Microsoft-like interface for all users. This approach, called ‘Connected Intelligence’ sets the standard for the future direction of business software solutions and marries the best of client server and web technology. It is based on a Microsoft look and feel that allows businesses to swiftly and automatically deploy any TechnologyOne solution across their organisation.”

Not only are the TechnologyOne solution sets easy to deploy, but they also empower users with a richer user interface, unlike traditional applications which limit the user experience. The solution is sophisticated in its functionality, with genuine integration across a Microsoft SQL or Oracle database.

“Our applications are based on pushing information to the wider community,” continued Slattery. “They are designed to support a user’s ‘role’ in an organisation, reducing training requirements and providing intuitive, easy to use graphics and tools.

“And lastly because we develop, implement and support the solutions, we have a very tight loop of feedback and enhancement. Our support staff and consultants work with developers to improve the user experience and ensure that suggestions and improvements are always incorporated in upgrades and future releases.

“When you look at what sets us apart from the competition,” concludes Slattery, “it’s no surprise we’ve been able to build our customer base so quickly. And we expect to build on this success, particularly now with the release of our HR & Payroll, BI and Budgeting solutions. The recent acquisition of Avand will see document management offered as an integrated offering”.
