Tomorrow’s Engineers Week: efforts to inspire next generation reach key milestone

To mark Tomorrow’s Engineers Week (10 to 14 November), EngineeringUK has unveiled that 400 organisations have now committed to develop STEM outreach and inspire the next generation of engineers through the Tomorrow’s Engineers Code.

Celebrating 5 years since it launched, the Tomorrow’s Engineers Code community has grown to include a huge range of organisations – from large and small businesses and Professional Engineering Institutions to charities and government departments. All members are committed to drive inclusion and increase the number and diversity of young people entering engineering and technology careers.  

This week the Code community, along with many organisations across the UK, are uniting to inspire and excite young people to discover their future in engineering and technology careers through the nationwide Tomorrow’s Engineers Week celebration. Last year, more than 55,000 young people took part in EngineeringUK’s schools’ activity, with many more many more participating in outreach from organisations across the country. This year, based on the theme ‘Dare to discover’, the aim is to engage even more.

Catherine Sturman, Senior Code Manager at EngineeringUK, comments, “It’s fantastic to see the Code community has reached the exciting milestone of 400 members, who are all committed to inspiring the next generation of engineers in the UK. We believe collaboration and a cross-industry approach is key to successfully increasingly the number and diversity of young people choosing engineering and technology careers. Last year alone, 71% of Signatories worked with others to deliver joint STEM outreach activities and this is only set to grow.

“This Tomorrow’s Engineers Week will inspire a huge wave of activity, and we’re excited to join the celebrations and showcase the fantastic opportunities for young people.”

Since The Tomorrow’s Engineers Code was established, it has successfully improved understanding of the STEM outreach landscape amongst its community (reported by 73% of Signatories) and boosted collaboration (reported by 65% of Signatories). It has also increased understanding of how to showcase diversity within engineering and tech roles (reported by 63% of Signatories).

By aligning with a national movement dedicated to inclusivity, collaboration, and impact-driven outreach, we’ve enhanced our engagement efforts, fostered meaningful partnerships, and gained valuable insights into best practices.”

As well as providing 4 pledges and STEM outreach guidance for best practice, The Tomorrow’s Engineers Code has fostered thoughtful discussion and collaboration through 38 events. The fifth annual conference, Tomorrow’s Engineers Live will take place on 10 February 2026, continuing to bring the community together to share, learn and innovate.
