Top 10 best-paying roles currently being aimed at new graduates

Veterinarians are the UK’s highest-paid graduates straight out of university, according to new data released by the world’s largest job site, Indeed.

With this week’s A-level results due to send thousands of eager students on their way to university, many are banking on picking up better career prospects along with their degree. Indeed’s research shows the top 10 best-paying roles currently being aimed at new graduates.

Training to be a vet can take five or six years, longer than most undergraduate courses, but newly-qualified vets can expect to start their first job on an average annual salary of £31,636 – putting them top of the earnings tree for new graduates.

Just behind vets come property management consultants, who enjoy a typical starting salary of £31,362, and development operations engineers who can expect to start on £30,593.

Eight of the 10 of the highest-paid graduate jobs pay more than the average UK salary of £29,500 a year. The rapid growth of the UK’s tech sector – and the salaries it is willing to pay to attract skilled professionals – is also in evidence, with the league table featuring several coding and developer roles.

The global car rental company Enterprise emerges as the UK’s most prolific hirer of new graduates. It accounts for nearly one in 40 (2.36%) of ‘graduate’ job postings on Indeed.

Other big recruiters of talent straight out of university include the Big Four accountancy firms PwC and KPMG, and the multinational management consultancy WSP.
