TSW Training sees three of its learners scoop awards at Apprenticeship Awards Cymru

Last night, Bridgend-based training provider, TSW Training, saw three of its learners and employers win big at the Apprenticeship Awards Cymru 2022.

Chrystalla Moreton, a Celsa apprentice, won the Tomorrow’s Talent prize, while Willow Daycare and FSG Tool and Die won Small Employer of the Year award and Medium Employer of the Year award respectively.

During the virtual ceremony, hosted by Welsh radio presenter Eleri Sion, apprentices were applauded for their achievements while employers were congratulated for their commitment to apprenticeship programmes.

A ‘shining star’ at Celsa

Hoping to be a role model for women in the steel industry, Chrystalla Moreton’s efforts were recognised with the Tomorrow’s Talent award. Described as a ‘shining star’ by her employer, Chrystalla has shown outstanding problem-solving skills, far exceeding what’s expected at this stage in her apprenticeship.

“Chrystalla is bold and innovative, even at this early stage in her career, showing initiative and getting hands-on with the materials and machinery,” says Terry Collier, Celsa’s apprenticeships manager.

Accepting the award on behalf of Chrystalla, Richard Davey said that Chrystalla was “infectious in the way that she learns and engages with those around her.” He added that they were already considering Chrystalla as a potential mentor for apprentices in the future too.

Working with TSW Training, Celsa’s apprenticeship programme aims to build sustainable growth for the company and boost the local economy in Cardiff.

A business boom for Willow Daycare

Starting a business in the pandemic isn’t easy, but Willow Daycare did just that, opening a nursery in the grounds of Glangwili General Hospital for NHS staff and their children.

Putting an apprenticeship programme in place, delivered by TSW Training, saw the business grow exponentially, with a 1,600% increase in the number of children attending.

Owner Rebecca Davies, said of her win: “I’m proud of myself, my team, and the children and the parents who support the nursery service. I am truly grateful as everyone has contributed to my vision of a nursery service which I am sure will continue to evolve.

“Part of my vision for my own nursery business is to encourage and train new employees to become the best nursery practitioners they can be and show them that working with children can be a very rewarding career.

“TSW Training have been by my side from the moment I began my tender bid to start my business, they have been encouraging and supportive all the way. I can honestly say I could not have achieved this success without them.”

Decades of success for FSG Tool & Die

With an apprenticeship programme spanning decades, FSG Tool & Die have gone from strength to strength.

Their highly skilled apprentices regularly win awards nationally and globally for their prowess when it comes to engineering. Now, the company’s dedication to their apprentices has been recognised with their recent win at the Apprenticeship Awards Cymru 2022.
