Barnsley College (@BarnsleyCollege) has hosted a celebratory event for their longest-serving staff – under the light of Luke Jerram’s Mars installation.

The event sought to mark the achievements of 170 staff who have served the College for at least a decade, some for over thirty years.

It saw members of the Senior Leadership Team and long-serving staff gather in the Atrium of the Old Mill Lane campus to share memories of their time at the College.

Yiannis Koursis, Principal and Chief Executive Officer at Barnsley College, addressed the group in a congratulatory speech. He said:

“We are very lucky to have so many long serving colleagues, whose years of dedication and commitment have helped to transform the lives of so many students and the wider community.

“Today, 170 employees who have completed either 10, 20, 25 or 30 years of continuous service, are being rewarded for their dedication and loyalty. Together, they have contributed a whopping 2,764 years of service to Barnsley College and transformed countless lives across Barnsley through the power of education. That is definitely something to be proud of!”

Mel Jenkinson, Director of Student Recruitment, Marketing and Communications at the College, has served 27 years at the College and attended the event. She added:

“Does it surprise me that we have so many members of staff who have worked here for over a decade? Not at all! I have enjoyed every second of my time at Barnsley College and made life-long friends, many of whom are also long-serving members of staff.

“This event has provided us with a fabulous opportunity to catch up with some familiar faces and celebrate our achievements together.”
