From education to employment

Seetec helps Flowline staff achieve Team-Leading qualifications

Lisa and Peter receive their certificates from Matthew Rowlatt and Steve Bond

Two staff members at leading Essex-based drainage contractor Flowline have secured Team-Leading apprenticeship qualifications.

Technical Services Manager Peter Garwood and Operations Planner Lisa Storey are the first Flowline employees to complete ILM Level 2 apprenticeships in partnership with employment and skills specialist Seetec.

Seetec has been working with the company since 2015 to help staff develop their skills to ensure Flowline remains at the forefront of innovation and technological advance to meet customers’ changing needs.

Other Flowline staff are currently working towards Level 3 Management and Business Administration apprenticeships, and now Peter and Lisa are planning to continue their professional and personal development by progressing to this level.

Flowline Managing Director Matthew Rowlatt explained: “Flowline are a company that pride ourselves on quality environmental services, so we always provide our team with opportunities to keep developing their skills.

“We are very proud of Peter and Lisa’s achievements and would like to thank Steve and the Seetec team for their support.”

Peter, who has worked for Flowline for 17 years building up his experience on site before moving into a supervisory role, said: “Having not studied for a long time I found it quite a challenge. But with the brilliant support from Steve at Seetec I completed the course and passed. This gave me a massive sense of achievement and I can’t wait to get started on the next course.” Peter’s apprenticeship included completing a skills programme in English, Maths and ICT.

Lisa, who has worked for Flowline for four years, said: “‘Studying for my Level 2 diploma was challenging – not only the course but finding time around my work, this made it more rewarding when I finally passed it. I enjoyed learning all about the aspects of leading a team, I will find this very valuable in the future.”

Seetec Assessor/Tutor Steve Bond explained: “It is a difficult qualification to achieve and requires real commitment. Both Lisa and Peter had to balance busy job roles and home and family commitments -including Lisa getting married halfway through – to do the research and studying necessary.

“They showed resilience, perseverance and drive, developing their communication and decision-making skills, confidence and leadership skills.”

The ILM Level 2 apprenticeship in Team Leading is a combined knowledge and competency-based qualification which is ideal for new team leaders who want to develop themselves as managers. Delivered over 12-15 months, it provides learners with the opportunity to develop and implement the core skills needed in today’s dynamic business environment.

Steve added: “Seetec apprenticeships have evolved and grown over 30 years to meet the needs of today’s diverse society. We offer expert ILM qualifications for leaders and managers at every level, from newly-promoted managers to CEOs.

“Flowline understand that investing in staff of all ages is going to benefit the company and that the skills and confidence they develop will help to drive the business forward.”
