From education to employment

Northern Ireland Lecturers Come Out Strong in Certificates List

Two lecturers from East Antrim Institute of IT have just been named the first in Northern Ireland to have completed the JEB Level 4 Certificate in Transforming Learning with Information Learning Technology (ILT). Judy McCullough and Bill Montgomery make up a third of the total, joining a mere four other lecturers in the UK to have achieved the certificate.

The certificate provides a qualification specially designed for using I.T. as a teaching resource for those in Further Education, Sixth Form and Specialist Colleges. The qualification shows teaching staff how to best employ ILT in classrooms.

Both Judy and Bill consider IT an important part of their teaching methodology, using a range of IT related courses and were able to study for their new qualifications through East Antrim Institute’s staff development programme.

Congratulating both lecturers, East Antrim Institute Director Mr John Blayney said: “East Antrim Institute is a sector leader when it comes to the use of ILT in the classroom and our VLE currently provides students with access to course notes, assignments, on-line assessments and published e-learning materials twenty four hours a day. To date, it has proven to be a great success and of immense benefit for both students and teaching staff at the Institute since its inception in 2002.”

“Both Bill and Judy have gained a fantastic amount of new e-knowledge from this course which I am sure they can use to help develop further the Institute’s 24/7 VLE access.”
