From education to employment

QIA Excellence Gateway is launched this week

QIA Excellence Gateway ““ a new online portal set to become the leading service for people working within FE – was launched this week by the Quality Improvement Agency (QIA).

The QIA will formally launch and demonstrate the Excellence Gateway, which exists to share knowledge and facilitate improvement in the sector, at their summer conferences over the next week.

The online portal will enable individuals to learn directly from and interact with others in the sector ““ finding out what works and what doesn”t in the learning environment, and providing a convenient way for staff to access practical guidance that they can make use of in their day-to-day work..

Further education staff (from quality managers in further education colleges to teaching assistants in community learning centres) will have access to an unrivalled range of high-quality guidance and information on effective practice to help them further develop their own skills and professional knowledge.

Sir George Sweeney, Chair of the FE Sector Self Regulation Implementation Group and member of the LSC National Council, said: “The UK’s 60,000 further education staff play a pivotal role in the learning and development of over four million students every year, both young and old. Consequently, the need to provide the very best quality teaching is critical ““ not least to the success of the UK’s economy. Until now there has been no single reference point for any individual looking to develop themselves.

“I wholeheartedly welcome the launch of the QIA Excellence Gateway, a website which I see fast becoming an essential resource for every further education professional.”
