From education to employment

NMITE REFERENCED BY MICHAEL GOVE MP AS PART OF LEVELLING UP AGENDA

NMITE was yesterday, 2 February 2022, featured in the Levelling Up White Paper as an example of an institution which is playing a role in the levelling up challenge identified by the government.  Herefordshire, home of NMITE, has for a long time been regarded as a higher education “cold spot” and NMITE has embraced its role to deliver opportunities to its community in terms of skills and employability.

Introduced in a statement in the House of Commons by Levelling Up Secretary Michael Gove MP, the White Paper specifically references NMITE:

Innovative new models of skills-based HE also have an important role to play in levelling up places.  For example, the New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering, opened last September in Hereford, offers a model of skills-based learning drawing from global best practice that emphasises work readiness, as well as self-reliance, community spirit and volunteering.”

Commenting, Professor Elena Rodriguez-Falcon, President & Chief Executive of NMITE said

“We are proud and motivated by the role that we are now playing in our wonderful city of Hereford and in the wider community.  Herefordshire Council has been a great supporter of NMITE and we look forward to working together to deliver our impact locally.  Our offer in terms of a unique way of learning, is all designed to provide a new generation of engineers with the knowledge and technical skills to improve their employability”.
