From education to employment

Amazing Apprenticeships to Support Sutton Trust Apprenticeship Summer School 2022

The annual summer school returns for a third year, this time face-to-face, to inspire over 100 students from disadvantaged backgrounds around the opportunities apprenticeships can present.

The Sutton Trust Summer School programme is designed to motivate students to make an informed decision about a future career and the steps they can take. Launched in 2020 to accompany the original university-focussed summer school, the apprenticeship edition introduces the opportunities apprenticeships can offer, offers practical advice around applying for an apprenticeship and includes workshops to truly bring apprenticeships to life.

“We are delighted to continue our partnership with Amazing Apprenticeships on our Apprenticeship Summer School this year. The programme supports lower-income young people with insights into apprenticeships, showcasing the types of apprenticeships on offer, the careers they can lead to, and allowing students to explore whether an apprenticeship is the right path for them,” said James Turner, CEO, The Sutton Trust

The Amazing Apprenticeship team will host the first afternoon of activities in the 3-day residential to inspire the students to work together, commence the journey to discover all they can about apprenticeships and begin to consider them as a positive next step.

“Amazing Apprenticeships will be helping students to make the most out of the brilliant opportunities on offer as part of the programme, including networking opportunities, sessions with employers and the chance to meet current apprentices,” continues Turner. “ We’re excited to be returning to face-to-face delivery this year and would like to thank Amazing Apprenticeships and all our partners who support this important and growing part of our work.”

We have been involved in The Sutton Trust Apprenticeship Summer School since its inception in 2020 and are really looking forward to this first face-to-face edition after two years of being online,” said Founder and Director of Amazing Apprenticeships, Anna Morrison. “I’ll be sharing my own story as someone who did not attend university and our very own Amazing Apprenticeships apprentices will be talking about their experience, why they chose an apprenticeship and the opportunities presented in doing so.”

Days two and three will then introduce further current apprentices, networking opportunities and employer sessions, all designed to offer a round view of the opportunities apprenticeships can create.

“The intention is to inspire and enthuse each young person into considering an apprenticeship as their next step, offering the practical information on how to do so and real-life experience,” continues Morrison. The Sutton Trust’s work around social mobility is vital and we are delighted to partner with them on such an important programme to remove some of the barriers young people face in trying to access apprenticeship opportunities.”

Applications for 2022 are now closed but students can register their interest for the 2023 intake.
