From education to employment

Apprenticeships up for grabs at The Big Apprenticeship Job Fair

South Eastern Regional College (SERC) recently hosted the Big Apprenticeship Job Fair held at SERC’s SPACE Campus, Castle Park Road, Bangor. The event was organised to offer visitors the chance to meet potential employers face-to-face and discover what apprenticeships are available.

The event, organised by SERC’s Training Organisation in conjunction with local employers saw 17 companies in attendance offering apprenticeships in a diverse range of areas such as engineering, hospitality, motor vehicle and childcare. Young people, parents and members of the public had the opportunity to speak with employers in the hope of securing an interview for employment for the forthcoming academic year.

Numerous employers including The Salty Dog, Grahams, Herron Bros, Charles Hurst, Magellan Aerospace, Little Stars Nursey, Sodexo and Clandeboye Lodge Hotel and many others attended the event.

The event attracted 75 young people with many now securing interviews for potential employment.

SERC Chief Training and Contracts Officer William Greer said “there was great level of interaction and a real buzz in the theatre. I have no doubt that many of the links made will result in apprenticeship enrolments.”

Ken Webb, SERC Principal and Chief Executive said “The Big Apprenticeship Job Fair was a great opportunity to welcome young people, their parents and siblings to the College, enabling them to see for themselves what apprenticeships are available.

“The event was designed to give school leavers and those looking to further their career prospects a valuable opportunity to experience at first hand the variety of exciting job opportunities available to them and the high-quality skills training that is on offer to help them realise their ambitions right here on their doorstep.”
