Barton Peveril Students are South Coast Champions

@BartonPeveril Sixth Form College students Evan Thorne and Oscar Taylor won the Junior Men’s South Coast Rowing Championship, with their team Itchen Imperial Rowing Club, at Royal Victoria Country Park on Saturday 18th September 2021.

The five person team won the 64th annual Championship after a successful season competing across Hampshire and Dorset, where they won six out of eight regattas.

The team is coached by Chris Foad, father of Barton Peveril alumnus and Olympian James Foad; James Foad won a Bronze in Rowing during London 2012. The team also comprises Robert Evans, Owen Barnaby, and Murray Taylor.

Evan Thorne (formerly of Hounsdown School) and Oscar Taylor (formerly of Oasis Academy: Sholing) train six days a week to maintain their winning ways and now have their sights set on the prestigious Henley Regatta.

Speaking on their success, Evan Thorne said:

‘To get the results that we did, winning the races how we did, made all the training down the club in early mornings, late evenings and during lockdown worthwhile.’

Evan Thorne, who is now in his second year at the Hampshire-based College, is looking to continue his Rowing career whilst studying Sport and Exercise Science at university next year.
