Havering Council recently secured £1.6m funding via the Good Growth Fund as part of Mayor of London Sadiq Khan’s backing of various projects across the capital.

The core aim of the project is to generate new skills and jobs and ultimately drive sustainable economic growth in areas and industries of London that are deemed to need it.

In Havering, the money will contribute to the Rainham SOL – Access and Innovation project, which will provide an innovation hub to boost productivity and skills in the borough. As one of the partners, the College will support the project by investing in new technologies which will be incorporated into the teaching of students to address the construction industry’s skills shortage.

We will also invite local construction-based firms to use these facilities, particularly encouraging them to train their staff with them. As such, we will be fulfilling our mission of responding to the needs of learners and employers.

Colin Seabrook, Head of Construction and Building Services at the College, said:

This project has massive potential and we are looking forward to what it holds. Ultimately, we hope it will create more jobs for people in the borough and in doing so contribute to the construction sector’s skills shortage. It’s a win win.
