College Welcomes School Leavers to Taster Event
Over three hundred young people turned up for a taster event at Waltham Forest College choosing to continue their education at the College.
Students were invited to take part in lessons and practical sessions to get a better understanding of their career choices.
Catering and Hospitality student said: “The practical sessions offered me a new experience that allows the learning to stay in my mind for longer. I was thinking about joining a sixth form but now that I have visited the College and seen the facilities I will be taking up my offer in September.”
Students had the opportunity to find out more about the support they would receive in finding work-placements directly linked to their careers. This will allow learners to develop their employability skills and better prepare them for the world of work.
Assistant Principal, Peter Stone commented: “These taster events are vital as we want to make sure our students are better supported in choosing the right career path that will bring them their greatest success, whether that leads to university, employment or an apprenticeship.
“There was a fantastic buzz around the campus and the College staff were extremely complimentary about our new students.”
The college has invested £25 million in the past five years to create superb light and airy classrooms and workshops with industry-standard spaces and resources. The College’s links with partner schools and employers have strengthened and the number of students joining the College from within the local community is growing.
