From education to employment

Further Education speed-dating event comes to Sheffield & Hackney

Speed-dating candidates from Sheffield and Hackney are ready and waiting to meet their professional match from the further education sector at events, organised by Lifelong Learning UK’s Make a Difference programme, which take place on Friday 4th September at In Touch Care – the Education & Vocational Training College, Sheffield and Thursday 10th September at Hackney College, London from 3.00 – 6.00pm.

These aspiring managers have experience of working in many different sectors and are keen to make a difference by using their skills in managerial positions in further education colleges and training providers. The event will bring together these candidates with further education providers from around the area who are looking for high-calibre managers to fill their vacancies. Local colleges and training providers who have not signed up to the event yet can still do so and need not leave candidates feeling ‘stood up’.

Each “date” will last three minutes, and both the candidate and the further education provider will have a chance to ask questions and get to know each other more. Where matches are made, contact details can be swapped with a view to setting up a more formal interview.

The Make a Difference programme helps create opportunities for experienced professionals, who are looking for new challenges, to move into a management career in further education. The programme also helps training providers find and recruit outstanding individuals and give them the grounding to use their skills successfully in their new environment in the further education sector. Candidates who are successfully recruited into a role which is backed by the Make a Difference programme will also be eligible for a £10,000 leadership development scheme.

Alan Clarke from the Make a Difference programme said: “This is an ideal way for a large number of managers to meet a large number of potential employers, all in just one event. Make a Difference is a fantastic programme that supports people with business and industry experience to find roles in the further education sector where they can use their skills and knowledge to benefit both the college or training provider and its students alike.”
