The BREEAM Excellent standard further education facility offers high quality vocational programmes for students as part of the Dewsbury Learning Quarter Project. The impressive building is set over three floors, incorporates 73 windows, 85 rooms, 11 computer suites and classrooms and covers nine subject areas.
Terry Cocker, senior project manager at Kier, commented:
“We were thrilled that Dewsbury Learning Quarter was awarded the Best Educational Building at this year’s LABC West Yorkshire Building Excellence Awards. It is a testament to our close working relationship with the client throughout, which hugely contributed to the success of the project.
“We look forward to the next round of LABC awards where we will be up against the winners from the North, East and South Yorkshire awards ceremony to find out which projects will go through to the Grand Finals in November.”
Students are able to benefit from a range of ultra-modern, creative and technical workspaces that include a fully equipped art-and-design studio and motor vehicle workshop, an extensive learning resource centre, the latest IT and digital media equipment and numerous relaxing social spaces.
“We are delighted that we have won this amazing award for our centre, especially against some magnificent architecture and the competition was very high. Kier has been a pleasure to work with on this project and have delivered to our exacting brief. We look forward to seeing how we fare in the next round of the competition and will have our fingers crossed for the finals,” said Marie Gilluley, Kirklees College Principal.
