LABC Award win for Springfield Sixth Form Centre

Kirklees College are celebrating after winning the Best Educational Building award in the 2019 LABC Regional Building Excellence Awards for their Springfield Sixth Form Centre building.

The building completed by Kier Construction was finished in 2018 and built in partnership with Kirklees Council. The state-of-the-art Centre is one of the first of an exciting delivery of projects to take place under the North Kirklees Growth Strategy.

The project will now be judged against the winners from the LABC North and East Yorkshire and the LABC South Yorkshire and Humber Awards, with the winners from each category going on to the Grand Finals in November.

The project was shortlisted alongside:

• Fieldhead Carr Primary School – Geo Houlton & Sons
• Leeds College of Building Phase 2 – Clugston Construction
• Moorend Academy – BAM
• Ravenscliffe Sixth Form SEN School – AHR Architects
• Clothworkers’ South Building – WM Birch and Sons Ltd

The BREEAM Excellent standard further education facility offers high quality vocational programmes for students as part of the Dewsbury Learning Quarter Project.  The impressive building is set over three floors, incorporates 73 windows, 85 rooms, 11 computer suites and classrooms and covers nine subject areas.

“We look forward to the next round of LABC awards where we will be up against the winners from the North, East and South Yorkshire awards ceremony to find out which projects will go through to the Grand Finals in November.”

Students are able to benefit from a range of ultra-modern, creative and technical workspaces that include a fully equipped art-and-design studio and motor vehicle workshop, an extensive learning resource centre, the latest IT and digital media equipment and numerous relaxing social spaces.
