Leeds Trinity University (@LeedsTrinity) has been selected to host the Association of Commonwealth Universities (@The_ACU) Summer School in 2022.

Working in partnership with the ACU, Leeds Trinity will be responsible for organising the annual Summer School event.

During the event, which was established in 2011, students from participating Commonwealth Universities will have the opportunity to discuss multi-disciplinary issues of global importance, with a different theme each year.

A key aim of the School is to mix local, regional, and international students with peers who may not otherwise have had an opportunity to leave their region. Students have participated from organisations across the world including Nigeria, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Canada, Ghana, Cameroon, Fiji, India, Kenya, Malawi, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.

The 2022 ACU Summer School will be held at Leeds Trinity University with the theme Sport and regeneration: Driving sustainability, community and wellbeing, coinciding with the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The event will feature talks by leading international speakers, group projects, networking opportunities, intercultural sessions and skills development.

Professor Charles Egbu, Vice-Chancellor at Leeds Trinity University, said:

“I am delighted that Leeds Trinity University has been chosen to host the global Association of Commonwealth Universities Summer School in 2022. It is a great opportunity for our students to interact with their peers from institutions across the world as well to help develop their skills and knowledge.

“We are looking forward to welcoming all students to our vibrant campus in Horsforth to take part in this programme of cultural exchange and international networking.”

Maia Sule, International Placement and Study Abroad Officer at Leeds Trinity University, said:

“It is an exciting opportunity for Leeds Trinity University to host the 2022 Association of Commonwealth Universities Summer School and we are thrilled to be able to showcase what our campus and Leeds has to offer.

“We hope that we are able to hold the event in-person so that all attending students can benefit from working alongside each other and listening to inspirational speakers, as well as developing skills and engaging in networking opportunities.”

The 2022 ACU Summer School will take place from 31 July to 8 August. Students in the final year of their undergraduate degree who expect to move to postgraduate study, or those already studying for a postgraduate degree (full or part-time) are eligible to apply to attend.
