From education to employment

NEW: Modern Apprenticeship in Hairdressing @BordersCollege

With 2018 being the Year of Young People, now is the time to bring the personalities, talents and achievements of Scotland’s young people to the fore.  As part of its Modern Apprenticeship (MA) family, Borders College has introduced a brand new MA in Hairdressing, offering those aged 16 and over the chance to earn a wage and build their experience whilst gaining an industry-recognised qualification.

If you are an employer in the hairdressing sector and looking to expand your team, taking on a Modern Apprentice is a great way to add value to your business as well as contribute to developing the young workforce in your area.

The SCQF Level 5 (SVQ 2) work based qualification is designed to be completed in between 9-12 months, with candidates assessed by a qualified workplace Assessor.  Successful completion requires positive demonstration of the candidate’s performance, knowledge and a portfolio of evidence.
Employers who have taken on MAs are positive about the experience, praising MAs for improving productivity, staff morale, and service and product quality.  Skills Development Scotland also pays a contribution towards the cost of training and assessing Modern Apprentices on behalf of the Scottish Government, saving you money.

So if all of this has got you thinking about bringing an apprentice into your hairdressing business, you can find out more about the qualification and funding options by emailing Fiona Turnbull, Contracts Manager, or calling: 01450 361030 (Scottish Borders) or 0131 667 5345 (Edinburgh and the Lothians).
