South Cheshire College’s Academy Restaurant and Deli Awarded Highest AA College Rosettes

South Cheshire College’s Academy Restaurant and Deli is celebrating after being awarded Highly Commended AA College Rosette and named a Centre of Excellence for Service.

The AA inspection resulted in the College’s Academy Restaurant and Deli being Highly Commended in areas of Service, Hospitality and Cuisine. 

The training restaurant is based on the ground floor of the College’s campus, featuring a modern and innovative twist on Manchester’s famous Northern Quarter in its facilities and décor.   

A qualified AA Hotel and Restaurant inspector dined at the Academy Restaurant, before meeting with students, staff and employers to form a judgement on accreditation.

An assessors from People 1st inspected the Academy Restaurant and Deli on the same day, measuring quality across ten different categories, including using feedback from an AA inspector.

People 1st is the leading skills and workforce development charity for employers, whose accreditation service for training providers in England recognises excellence in training and qualifications in industry including hospitality.

The Academy Restaurant and Deli was praised by People 1st for its links with employers.  Here, students had progressed from College into employment at companies that the College have formed links with including Brunning & Price, Residence Restaurant and Bar in Nantwich and for celebrity chef Luke Thomas. 

Collaboration with local companies was also recognised in the report, with reference to the College’s work with Rodney Demsem Wines, providing catering for Nantwich Town Football Club and Marks and Spencer Money through the partnership with The Little Food Company.

Mike Carney, Group Executive Chef at Brunning & Price, said: “We have only positive and lovely things to report from our work with South Cheshire College’s Academy Restaurant from day one to now.

“Their facilities are truly impressive along with their stance of embracing technology and evolving as the industry needs it. However the best bit is the way they support their learners and us as employers and the ease at which this all takes place.”

Director of Faculty of Arts, Business and Services, Mark Parsons, said: “We are incredibly proud of the team of staff and students who have led our Academy Restaurant and Deli to being recognised by both the AA and People 1st

“These achievements set the bar high regionally, both as a training college and as a Restaurant.”

Matt Evans, Level 1 Hospitality and Catering Student, said: “As a Hospitality and Catering student, this experience was invaluable for my own progress.  It was a real team effort and I was supported so well by my tutors and fellow students.

“The whole experience at South Cheshire College is preparing me for my future in the workplace.  For example, I am a regular member of the team who provides catering through the College for Nantwich Town Football Club in a real-life setting.”
