Students and staff raise funds for the Royal British Legion

A team of students and staff from Burton and South Derbyshire College (@BSDCofficial) have been using their creative and technical skills to raise funds for the Royal British Legion.

Product Design and Fabrication and Welding students and staff have collaborated on the project that has involved making steel silhouette soldier figures with a red poppy base using a Swifty CNC Plasma Cutter.

The figures are on display in the College’s Town Centre Campus, as well as a limited number that are available to purchase from the College’s Mulberry Bistro for a minimum donation of £10 to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

In addition, Public Services students are also currently in preparation to take part in Burton’s Remembrance Day service on 11th November by parading and laying a wreath in the Memorial Grounds outside the College.

Bill Moorley, Creative Lecturer at BSDC said:

“The popularity of the figures has been a pleasant surprise and we’re delighted to have raised so much money for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. The College is always looking for ways we can use our state of the art equipment and technical skills to benefit our local community, and we’re delighted our students have been involved in this project.”
