The ETF announces new professional workforce development plans for 2019/20

David Russell, Chief Executive Officer at the Education and Training Foundation

The Education and Training Foundation (ETF) has announced its government-funded professional workforce development plans for 2019/20 for the Further Education (FE) and Training sector.

The plans display why the ETF is the national expert in designing and delivering effective Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for the FE workforce.

The organisation has also updated its annual professional workforce development brochure which showcases the areas of support available to the sector’s leaders, teachers and trainers.

The support is available for those holding roles at independent training providers, colleges (including sixth form colleges), apprenticeship-delivering employers and adult community learning providers.

The brochure also provides information on the value of being a member or a corporate partner of the Society for Education and Training (SET). The professional membership body has a 20,000 strong membership which makes it the largest professional membership organisation for practitioners in the post-14 sector.

The ETF through SET remains the only body which confers Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status and Advanced Teacher Status (ATS).

For the 2019/20 financial year, the ETF received grant funding from the Department of Education up to the value of £24,144,350. The public grant is used to subsidise high-quality training and development programmes which are designed to meet the current and future needs of the FE profession’s teachers, trainers and leaders.

The programmes the ETF provide range from:

  • Maths and English
  • EdTech support
  • T Level professional development
  • Centres for Excellence in Maths management
  • Leaders, chairs and governor development
  • Sector recruitment support

David Russell, Chief Executive Officer at the Education and Training Foundation, said:

“As the sector-owned national professional development body for FE, we are responsive to the sector’s needs to support excellence in organisations and their workforce. We do this through our programmes which the government grant we receive helps support.

“Across the 2019/20 year, we are expanding our highly successful suite of leadership and governance programmes; launching our diversified support for technical teaching to prepare for T Levels; managing the new Centres for Excellence in Maths in FE; and providing a wide range of development programmes to meet the needs of professionals.”

The Education and Training Foundation’s 2019/20 professional workforce development brochure can be read on the ETF website. The website also offers further information on the organisation’s programmes, funding and governance.
