Valuable CPD for teachers to enhance T Level delivery

Radical career change

A series of online Continuous Professional Development (CPD) events to support those new to teaching or those wishing to update their skills is taking place for staff in T Level providers. (@E_T_Foundation)

The live online events are part of the Education and Training Foundation’s (ETF) T Level Professional Development (TLPD) offer and will be delivered by highly experienced trainers with their own hands-on experience, enabling participants to collaborate, listen to useful hints and tips and enhance their teaching.

The New Teacher Programme, aimed at new teachers with no formal training, supports the rapid development of basic teaching skills. This course will help participants to shape their practice, network with other colleagues and build the knowledge and confidence necessary for successful T Level delivery. It introduces key concepts, provides hints, tips, strategies and learning methods to takeaway and try in the classroom or workshop.

For teachers, the Teaching T Levels: Professional and Vocational Upskilling course will explore how teachers and trainers can use reflective practice and experience to further enhance the quality of T Level provision. The live online sessions will provide a collaborative space, looking at curriculum design, constructive alignment, dual professionalism and communities of practice.

The Teaching T Levels: Enhancing Pedagogy course will develop teachers’ wider understanding of effective pedagogy. It provides insight into how teachers can enhance their skills and techniques, to ultimately prepare learners for success on their T Level journey.

Initial feedback from the Teaching T Levels courses revealed over 90 per cent of participants agreed the course had improved their knowledge and would have a positive impact on their professional practice.

Paul Kessell-Holland, National Head of T Level Design and Higher Level Education at the Education and Training Foundation said:

“These courses are co-designed and delivered by staff from within the sector, which means providers and staff can have confidence they will meet their need for meaningful and effective professional development.

“Our trainers have excellent pedagogic, technical and vocational knowledge to share, offering great insights and the support you need with your T Level journey.

“Bringing the lived experience of teachers into CPD opportunities alongside collaboration, evidence and research, provides a better chance of delivering support that will genuinely drive change in your teaching practice.”

All live online courses are taking place on dates in February, March and April. Participants are also encouraged to look at the online, self-learning courses, which for the New Teacher Programme can be taken over three themed modules, or over one module for the Teaching T Levels courses.

Each of these activities can be accessed by registering on the ETF’s T Level Professional Development Platform for FE providers and their staff. Where an online (flexible) course is available in your chosen subject, we recommend you undertake this prior to attending a live online event.

The ETF, the expert body for professional development and standards in Further Education and Training in England, has been supporting the delivery of T Levels since 2019. In February 2020, the ETF was awarded a four-year contract by the Department for Education to continue to support providers, leaders and practitioners to deliver the new courses.
