Welding competition success at NPTC Group of Colleges

The sparks were flying at NPTC Group of Colleges as the Welsh regional final of the Wales Skills Welding competition got underway this week.

Students from across Wales put their skills to the test at the competition which was held at Neath College (part of the NPTC Group of Colleges) and it was success for the home students who took three of the top four places and now go onto the next stage of the competition.

In first place was Daniel Baker, NPTC Group of Colleges, Level 2 Fabrication and Welding; second place went to Curtis Rees, NPTC Group of Colleges, Performing Engineering Operations L2 Fabrication Welding (Apprentice); third place to Jay Blair – Pembrokeshire College and in fourth place, James Griffiths-Davies,  NPTC Group of Colleges, Performing Engineering Operations L2 Fabrication Welding (Apprentice).

Judging the competition was William Hanford from the Welding Institute, South Wales Branch; Clive Slocombe, Code A Weld and Kristian Mason from TUV Nord.

The competition winners were presented with prizes which were sponsored by Geartrodes and Huntingdon Fusion.

Following the competition, Head of Engineering for NPTC Group of Colleges, Carl James said he was delighted with the students’ success.

“The students showed their skills and have once again done this College proud. The results show the standard of training and education provided by the dedicated staff that we have at NPTC Group of Colleges.”
