Weston students win Young Enterprise area final

A group of students from North Somerset Enterprise and Technology College (NSETC) have been crowned the overall winners at the Young Enterprise West of England area final.

The year 12 students won best Company Programme for their business, Growtopia, and will now go on to compete in the South West Regional Final on 15th June 2016 at RNLI in Dorset.

The awards evening, held on Thursday 5th May at Kingsweston House, was a culmination of a year in business for eight groups of students from schools across the West of England who have taken part in the Young Enterprise Company Programme for the 2015/16 academic year.

A panel of judges marked all eight businesses over the course of the evening by viewing trade stands and presentations delivered by the students.

NSETC students entered the Young Enterprise programme in September 2015 and launched their business, Growtopia, which produces educational books for young children. As part of the programme the students have attended various trade shows to promote and sell their product and used any profit to further grow the business.

Ruth Davies, Head of Year 12 at NSETC and the Centre Lead for Growtopia, said: “I am honoured to have work with such an inspiring bunch of young people, you couldn’t ask for better representatives for your school.

“This group have worked tirelessly from September on this project and they have reaped the reward. Young Enterprise is a great opportunity for students to develop not just enterprise skills but important life skills.”

Rob Carter, Chair of the Young Enterprise West of England Board said: “With standards this year higher than ever, Growtopia deservedly finished victorious with a powerful mixture of innovation, compassion, fun and great teamwork. Really well done.”

NSETC is a 14-19 free school which is part of Inspirational Futures Trust, a Multi Academy Trust sponsored by the Weston College Group.
