Women in Construction and the Built Environment – Careers Showcase

Much emphasis has been given to the skills gap that the property and construction industry is currently facing. The sector is currently suffering from an acute shortage of young people taking up a career in the profession. From traditional trades to the more technical skills, it seems the sector is being overlooked when it comes to a career choice, especially by female students.

In order to address and appeal to these students, Morganstone and Westacres have got together with Pennant Homes and Coastal Housing to organise a special careers day for female pupils in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas.

The event takes place on Thursday 26 April at the Academy of Sport, Llandarcy. Female pupils from schools across the area have been invited through Careers Wales to attend the event which will introduce them to the opportunities a career in construction and the built environment could offer for their future.

Tonia Morgan, Director of Morganstone and Westacres said:

The organisers have brought together a comprehensive collection of professions at the Academy with zones highlighting trades, professionals, careers and property for the pupils to visit. The event has the welcome support of several industry bodies including Careers Wales, Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), Cyfle and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). NPTC Group of Colleges, a leading educational organisation in the area will also play an important part bringing their expertise in further education and available local courses to the event.

The morning and afternoon sessions will enable the young visitors to discover and discuss future opportunities and take part in interactive demonstrations from leading companies in the construction professions providing them with invaluable knowledge and careers advice for the Property and Construction sectors.

As an added incentive, presentations from inspirational women in various professions will be take place during the day giving the pupils a unique opportunity to hear, first-hand, the success stories of women in construction.

The first event of its kind in the area, the experience is much anticipated by all involved.  It is envisaged that the success of the event will not only benefit the students but will be of value to the companies taking part and across the construction industry as a whole.
