International Women’s Day is celebrated on 8th March each year as a focal point in the movement for women’s rights.
Women have been more impacted socially, economically, and career-wise compared to men during the pandemic.
The impact of this needs to be mitigated now, so that long-term career scarring doesn’t happen for swathes of women and girls.
International Women’s Day is more important than ever, as decades of gender equality efforts are threatened by impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The day unfolds through diverse activities that aim to foster discussions around gender equality.
Social media becomes a powerful platform with hashtags such as #IWD trending, enabling the sharing of messages and stories related to women’s rights.
IWD also sparks charitable activities, encouraging support and fundraising for organisations working toward women’s empowerment.
Educational initiatives, from school programs to university lectures, educate students about gender issues. In workplaces, corporate initiatives are launched to address gender diversity and inclusion.
Marches and demonstrations take place globally, emphasizing issues like violence against women and gender-based discrimination. Cultural celebrations, such as art exhibitions and film screenings, creatively spotlight women’s achievements and challenges.
