Skills Funding Agency director David Hughes will become chief executive of the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education (NIACE) from 1 September.

Mr Hughes, currently national provider services director at the Skills Funding Agency, will replace Professor Alan Tuckett, who retires this summer.

Nick Stuart, chairman of NIACE, which exists to encourage adults to engage in better-quality learning, whilst celebrating the achievements of all adult learners, said: "The post involves being the leading voice for adult learning, working with politicians, policy makers, organizers and teachers across the full range of contexts in which adults learn."

"David's experience, both locally and nationally, in lifelong learning policy, his familiarity with government and his experience in the voluntary sector, all make him an ideal choice for this role."
