From education to employment

Ofqual calls on colleges ad employers for straight talking on qualifications

Examinations and qualifications regulator Ofqual is urging colleges and employers for their input on what is needed from learners to attend their courses.

“Qualifications can open doors to new opportunities but poor choices can limit learners options from an early age,” Fiona Pethick, Ofqual’s director of regulation, told the Westminster Education Forum today.

“Ofqual is calling on all those who use qualifications at all levels to be more transparent about what is needed for employment and further study.”

Ms Pethick told the conference how Ofqual intends to hold awarding bodies to account for the quality and standards of qualifications.

The sector needs to ensure qualifications meet the requirements of learners and industry, whilst also facilitating progression into employment, Further and/or Higher Education, she added.

Her comments come as the government conducts a review on the future of vocational education.
