Award-winning performance head appointed to FEA directorship

LEADING Further Education (FE) consultancy FEA have appointed Edd Brown to the new role of Operations Director for Quality Improvement.

FEA support senior FE leadership to overcome sector challenges through consultation and collaboration, delivering strategies and operational plans for long-term change.

Edd’s role will be to project manage support programmes for colleges who aim to improve their teaching, learning and assessment practice.

He joined FEA on September 1 having spent 13 years at Weston College in Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset, where he was Improving Teaching and Learning Manager.

Edd said: “As a teacher I could develop the learners in my class, which was thrilling. That became thousands when I was responsible for developing teaching and learning across the college. At FEA we can now support colleges and have an impact on tens of thousands.

“There are real challenges for the sector – Area Reviews, Prevent, Maths and English, funding – these are big topics. Amid this SLTs know they can’t forget student progress.

“I’m already enjoying my work at the FEA and it’s great to bring my skills to a national platform.”

During Edd’s time at Weston College it became a Grade 1, achieved teaching school status as well as winning two TES Awards – including College of the Year 2015 – and two Beacon Awards.
