A new podcast series, featuring some of the country’s leading apprenticeship experts, as well as current apprentices, business leaders and Apprenticeships Minister Gillian Keegan MP, has launched this week.

All About Apprenticeships” is a new podcast series hosted by award-winning broadcaster and journalist Georgie Frost and backed by the HomeServe Foundation, the not-for-profit arm of FTSE100-listed home repairs and improvements company, HomeServe.

Episode one, which launched this week, features:

  • Tim Smith, policy director of talent accelerator WhiteHat,
  • Laura Burley, apprenticeship ambassador of the Open University and
  • Anna Morrison CBE, founder and CEO of leading apprenticeships organisation Amazing Apprenticeships.

Founder and CEO of international home repairs and improvements business, FTSE100-listed HomeServe Plc, Richard Harpin, was also the podcast’s first flagship big business interview:

Other big name business leaders being interviewed for the new podcast series include:

  • Andy Palmer, former CEO of Aston Martin and apprentice;
  • Journalist, TV presenter and former apprentice Steph McGovern;
  • Lt Col Matt Ketterer of the British Army, the country’s biggest employer of apprentices; and
  • Euan Blair, CEO of WhiteHat and an active campaigner for apprenticeships in the UK.

“The podcast allows us to look deeply and broadly at the state of apprenticeships in the UK,” said All About Apprenticeships presenter Georgie Frost.

“We’ll explore the hot topics, benefits of and barriers to apprenticeships, as well as the trends that are affecting apprenticeships in the UK with some of the biggest and best names in the industry, and in UK business.

“The podcast offers everyone, including employers or future apprentice themselves, a real and genuine insight into why they are so important, and why they matter to the future of the UK.”

“We’re delighted to be able to support the launch of this new podcast series,” added Helen Booth, Director of the HomeServe Foundation. “To have so many key industry experts and major business leaders and broadcasters involved in the podcast just goes to show how important the subject of apprenticeships is and why it matters.

“The HomeServe Foundation is actively campaigning to encourage the Government to do more to remove the barriers and red tape that are stopping SMEs and trade businesses from investing in apprenticeships, including better incentives for employers. This means we need to get people talking, and this new podcast will help us achieve that.”

The HomeServe Foundation is working closely with the National Apprenticeship Service, as well as actively lobbying to ensure the Government understands how vital apprentices in the trades sector are for the future economy.
