The Next Normal Episode 7 – The Future of Banking

Join Chris Webb (@WorldWebb) and Helen Armitage (@HelenArmitage16) from the Careers and Employability Service at Sheffield Hallam University (@SheffHallamUni) for another foray into the world of work, as told by Covid-19. 

This week, we welcome Giles Cunningham, CEO at BLME (and SHU Alumni) and Zenith Shah, President of the SHU FABSoc (Finance, Accounting and Banking Society) to the (virtual) booth, where we discuss how the Banking and Finance sector has responded to the impact of Covid-19, where Digitisation and FinTech could be taking the industry and top tips for students and graduates looking to progress into careers in Banking and Finance in a challenging climate.

Our Guests:

Giles Cunningham – CEO of Bank of London and Middle East, which is a Sharia Law compliant bank. Giles has worked in the Banking sector in a number of different countries, including Brazil and Qatar, but is now back in the UK leading BLME. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Sheffield and then later undertook a part-time MBA with Sheffield Hallam University in Financial Services. He has been a member of the Sheffield Business School alumni circle, donated to the Hallam Coronavirus Appeal, and is interested in mentoring and giving back. He is also a big Sheffield United Fan!

Zenith Shah – A Business Economics student at Sheffield Hallam University. President of the Finance, Accounting and Banking Society, Zenith has a strong interest in finance with aspirations to enter the financial industry.

Our Presenters:

Helen Armitage – A Senior Employability Adviser for the College of Social Sciences and Arts at Sheffield Hallam University. Helen leads on the Hallam Career Mentoring Scheme and primarily supports the department of Art and Design with in-curriculum careers delivery.

Chris Webb – An Employability Adviser at Sheffield Hallam University, Chris supports the Gradvantage programme for final year students and graduates, as well as collaborating with the College of Business, Technology and Engineering on in-curriculum careers delivery.
