PARK ELECTRICAL COLLABORATE WITH COLLEGE TO FUTURE PROOF WORKFORCE

Once again South Eastern Regional College (SERC) is preparing individuals to thrive in the workplace by up-skilling local businesses with nationally recognised Siemens Mechatronic Systems Certification Programme (SMSCP) qualifications. SERC is currently the only accredited Siemens Mechatronics Training Partner provider within the British Isles.

The collaboration between SERC and Park Electrical Services will equip engineers in the electronics sector, with the latest skills base and help increase efficiency. This industry-focused training programme has been designed to meet the increasing demand for highly skilled technicians within the manufacturing engineering sector.

The Company has also recruited a mechatronics engineering apprentice from SERC, Alex Wright. 20-year-old Armoy local Alex is currently studying a Higher-Level Apprenticeship in Mechatronics Engineering.

SERC Head of School for Computing and Engineering Trevor Breadon explains: “With little specialist mechatronics training available, SERC are addressing the skills gap through delivering a programme of evening and day release classes to meet the needs of the sector and help develop these highly sought-after skills. With the emergence and adoption of more sophisticated manufacturing technologies, workers must keep abreast of the latest technologies so that they can remain relevant in their jobs and advance in their careers.”

Participants on the course are training at the Colleges Lisburn campus, equipped with a mechatronic lab containing state-of-the-art Siemens technology. The hands-on training uses ISO industry standard equipment and focuses on the operations, maintenance and designing of an integrated mechatronic system and is specifically designed for up-skilling.
