From education to employment

Amazing Apprenticeships launch new apprentice story films to coincide with National Careers Week 2022

Amazing Apprenticeships have released brand-new episodes of ‘apprentices are amazing’ introducing young people who either knew from the outset that university was not the right route for them or tried university as a route and switched to an apprenticeship to pursue their chosen career paths.

The four films cover each young person’s journey to an apprenticeship, the decisions they made, their career to date and their advice to those deciding their next steps and are designed to show students the varied options available to them.

We meet Chantelle, a firefighter, Frankie a 4th-year electrical apprentice, Tyler a level 3 apprentice technician, and Michael a level 2 carpentry apprentice.

“I’m a firm believer that you don’t have to go to university. The great thing about an apprenticeship is that you can earn while you are working. It was the best way to get to where I wanted to be.” Chantelle, Buckingham Fire and Rescue.

“No two days are the same, each day has different challenges. I’m not one for sitting in one place for too long. My advice would be to come into (an apprenticeship) with an open mind, give it your all. The more you show you want to be involved, you will be.” Frankie, M&S Electrical

“I did a week’s work experience and fell in love with the job. We spend the mornings learning and in the afternoons we go into the workshop. You’re learning and physically taking things apart and understanding how they work. This is the best thing I’ve done.” Tyler, Sparshatt Truck and Van

“I could be doing anything from building a roof to putting a lock on a door. It’s a good variety. The learning side is split between college and working on building sites. Every day is different.” Michael, MP Build

The full series of inspirational films are free to download from the Amazing Apprenticeships website, covering a wide range of careers.

For teachers, parents and carers, we have supplemented each film with a lesson plan, student worksheet and presentation designed to help motivate young people in taking their next steps.
