@bartonpeveril Sixth Form College students and staff have raised over £1,000 for local @EastleighBasics Bank, after collectively walking and running 10,000 kilometres over the course of the first half-term. The College members completed their ‘10k for £1k’ challenge to help Eastleigh Basics Bank support those in need throughout the community, during the ongoing pandemic.

The challenge, which lasted from Monday 4th January to Friday 12th February, also helped encourage students and individuals in the local community to stay active despite the national lockdown. The fundraising students and staff reached their 10,000 kilometre target by participating in five long walks or runs across the course of the first half-term, either individually or with their families.

This challenge, headed by Barton Peveril’s Sports Department, is part of the College’s wider fundraising efforts. The College community donated over 550 toys to local charity SCRATCH, in a bid to offer less fortunate families in the area a better Christmas. Sports students also raised over £500 for Eastleigh Basics Bank, as part of their National Citizenship Service, to support the charitable service over the festive season.

Speaking on the fundraising efforts, Barton Peveril Subject Leader for Sport, Daniel Jones, said:

“Students have collectively now completed over 10,000km and raised £1158. This will provide families that have been affected financially during the pandemic in Eastleigh and the surrounding boroughs with hundreds of meals.

“The effort that students have put in is exemplary, particularly in such challenging weather conditions. Students and staff across College have come together as a community to make the six week initiative a huge success and we have received many emails from students and parents saying how much it has helped with their mental wellbeing during this the latest lockdown.”
