Borders College Beauty students head to National Qualifiers

Two Borders College beauty therapy students are celebrating after being shortlisted and invited to take part in the World Skills National Qualifiers, being held this summer.

Connie Lothian and Chloe Thomson, both from Denholm, along with their models Kayleigh Scott from Newcastleton and Caitlan McGregor of Hawick, all studying on the Beauty Therapy Level 2 course, were recently notified of their successful initial entry and are now looking forward to competing against a number of other colleges in the next stage of the competition.

The first stage of the competition started at the end of last month and involved the students submitting a photographic entry for initial assessment. The feedback and results from the judges were excellent and the students and models will now travel to New College Lanarkshire’s Coatbridge Campus on 10th June to take part in the Qualifiers. A good performance and result here would see them participate in the UK National Finals at the NEC in November this year, as part of WorldSkills UK LIVE.

Connie Lothian commented:

“To be representing Borders College in the National Qualifiers is a great honour and we can’t wait to be taking part and competing against other colleges. We put a lot of effort in to our initial entry and the final outcome and feedback from the judges was excellent. Hopefully we can put on a great performance on the day and make it through to the finals.”

Curriculum Learning Manager Heather Fisher commented:

“The work the students put in for the initial photographic part of the competition was superb, with some very high scoring from the judges. We were confident they would make it through to the next stage. As a team, we are very proud of what they have achieved so far and are looking forward to competing at the Qualifiers. Here’s hoping for a great result and a place at the finals.”
