Brockenhurst College gains commended college status for its international work
Brockenhurst College has been given commended college status for its international work by the Association of Colleges (AoC) working alongside the British Council.
The New Forest organisation was one of only 20 colleges named in the international category of the AoC’s Beacon Awards, which celebrate the best and most innovative UK college practices.
Brock was praised for its international work and overseas collaboration, which has led to an international mindset and broadened the experiences of learners and staff.
The College has been recruiting international students for 15 years, with over 300 international students from 30 different countries studying at Brock annually.
This has diversified the overall campus culture and encouraged a global outlook across multiple curriculum areas.
Brock also has long-standing partnerships with three schools in China, where it supports delivery of the A Level provision while sharing knowledge on best practice.
Furthermore, college staff have travelled to Nigeria and Vietnam to provide advice and guidance on best practice to teachers there.
In addition, Brock’s GCSE Maths Co-ordinator is currently on secondment in Zhuhai, China, exploring mathematical pedagogy with Chinese counterparts to develop and improve UK practice.
Brockenhurst College International Manager, Paul Spanner, said:
“The many thousands of international students who have had their lives transformed through studying at Brock, or at our partner schools in China, is a great source of pride – as is the difference we have made to teaching in Nigeria and Vietnam.”
