Brockenhurst College Marine Technologies students given practical learning boost with donation of engines by Honda

Honda UK has donated four engines to Brockenhurst College to support the learning of Marine Technologies students at Marchwood Skills and Training Centre.

Honda’s car manufacturing plant in Swindon has now delivered the 1.6-litre VTEC inboard petrol engines, which are commonly used on vessels.

As a result, marine learners will be able to practise maintenance on the modern engines as part of their combustion training.

Lecturer in Marine Engineering Graham Etheridge said:

“When teaching the engine diagnostics module to our students I will now be able to perform practical demonstrations.

“These engines will also enable students to diagnose and solve sensor issues,” he added.

Honda UK Associate Nick Simpkins said: “Honda is pleased to assist aspiring engineers during their learning process.

“This donation will provide students access to hands-on learning and enhance their understanding of mechanical engineering.”
